A major new art exhibition by Bob Levene is taking place at the UCLan Hanover Gallery in Preston.
A Measure of Land is the gallery’s official launch exhibition since the new building was opened in July 2012.
Levene will be presenting a series of performances to camera. Pieces include the works: Depth of Field and Past Signal which look at how an individual’s understanding of the physical world is shaped by the limitations of the body they inhabit.
The artist uses the land to experiment with our perceptions of distance, space, speed and time and adopts pseudo-scientific strategies and anthropological methods of recording and analysing the ‘nature’ of things, exploring the scientific and artistic approaches to making sense of the world. Bob’s work manifests as recorded video and sound, performance, installations, films and photography.
Bob Levene has performed, screened and exhibited work at ICA (London), Arnolfini (Bristol) and BBC Radio 3 Cut & Splice Festival (London), Plymouth Arts Centre, Dundee Contemporary Arts and Festival Rümlingen (Switzerland). Cornerhouse (Manchester) and Globe Gallery (North Shields), FA Projects (London), Gallery North (Newcastle).
