Returning to Preston on 24 November Soundbytes in conjunction with Un-Convention. This will beĀ one day of talks and panels around independent music and creativity.

 

Soundbytes Un-Convention Preston 2012 is looking at building on the eventĀ in 2011 where 200 local artists, promoters, labels, entrepreneurs and industry professionals gathered to discuss careers in music and how to get ahead in the live sector.Ā There was plenty of advice ad ideas aboutĀ development of the local scene.

‘This year the event will again focus on opportunities for artists and independent music companies in the modern music landscape. The event aims to connect young and emerging practitioners with each other; to provide them with practical and achievable strategies; and to encourage them to work together to create and support cultural activities in the region’.

Free to attend but you must register if you want t go

There will be live performances,Ā featuringĀ who we consider the most cutting edge artists and thinkers in the modern music industries.

Participants include Scott Cohen (co-founder of the Orchard and manager of the Dum Dum Girls), Tony Morley (Leaf Label), Steve Lawson, Chris Cooke (Business Editor, CMU), Ben Sunderland (Chasing Owls), Jamie Webster (Instinctive Racoon), Howard Monk (The Local), Lee Denny (LeeFest), Matt Johnson (MDM Music), Rachel Ho (UK Indie Touring), Mike Burgess (HeavyFeet), Matthew Young (Song By Toad), plus more to be announced.

Local artists will be giving live acoustic performances and will beĀ recorded for a historical document and later release.
