An attempt to boost the city centre by offering free parking in the run up to Christmas has been announced by Preston City Council.

The council will make the Bus Station car park and Market Halls car park free on Sundays and late night on week days.

The Bus Station will also be free from 3pm on Saturday 17 November for the Christmas Lights Switch On. Find out all the info on the Christmas Lights Switch on including what time and who is turning them on.

Councillor Peter Rankin, Leader of Preston City Council said: “The council realises how important the festive shopping period is to traders and in order to ensure that the city centre is busy with shoppers in the run up to Christmas, we have decided to offer free parking in two of our car parks at busy times.

“We have extended the offer to Sunday’s this year, whilst continuing to offer free parking during the city’s late night shopping evenings.

“The council has also decided to offer free parking at the bus station so that people can come and watch the Christmas lights switch on at no cost.”
