Something spooky was going down on Avenham and Miller Parks this wet and wild Sunday afternoon. Despite lashings of rain over a hundred people made their way to Avenham Park Pavilion to join the Park Rangers for Halloween Antics. Little witches, skeletons, monsters and ghouls were shown how to make broomsticks from sticks and twigs and coloured in monster masks. The gloomy afternoon was very fitting for a tour of the parks in the company of gruesome characters created by the Wooden Spoon theatre company. We were led around the leaf strewn paths by the Grim Reaper, meeting a blood soaked jester, headless woman and three cackling witches along the way. It was very macabre and funny street theatre. My six year old loved it!

Preston City Council’s parks department have had some great family events on this year. We’ve been on a bird walk with a man from the RSPB and made a bird box with the park rangers. The rangers work hard to make these events enjoyable for all the family. Watch out for Tea with Santa on Sunday 9th December and DIY Christmas Decorations on Saturday 15th December.
