Preston Harriers Athletic Club have become champions of the North this week.

The club, based at Preston Sports Arena, beat the competition on Sunday 5 August to scoop the the title in Halifax.

They finished one point ahead of Hull and Manchester Athletic Clubs to become Northern League Division 1 Champions.

Highlights of the final day of action saw Stephanie Row come first in the womens 800m, Lucy Sumner grabbed first in the B competition of the womens 400m hurdles and Stephen Bennett won the mens 800m.

Editor of The Harrier magazine and coach Peter Hancock said: “Yes, we are Champions. Our result at Halifax on Sunday was enough, despite a depleted team on the day.

“This has been a long time coming. Our young athletes team has been regularly getting to National Finals recently, and this is beginning to carry forward into Senior success.”
