The event on Saturday 18 August is traditionally the opening of the Guild as the Guild Clerk reads the ancient proclamation announcing the Guild will take place.

The Guild Mayor Carl Crompton, in full ceremonial robes, leads the procession onto the steps of the Harris Museum & Art Gallery to make the announcements.

Street performers will join on the Flag Market to add to the party atmosphere.

The Guild anthem, commissioned by Lancashire poet Lemn Sissay, will also be sung.

The event begins at 10am and at 10.30am there will be a call for silence and then a call of “Oyez! Oyez! Oyez” so the Clerk can read the proclamation. It will finish around 1pm.
