An artistic company specialising in making creating adventures will bring their act to the Preston MAPS Festival.Advertisement
The festival, running for a day at various venues during the Preston Guild, will welcome the Small Things group from Manchester.
We caught up with Small Things to find out more about what they do.
Why are you taking part in MAPS?
The perfect opportunity to showcase our work in a new city and to meet new audiences and artists.
What is your act?
How often do you talk to teenagers that you don’t know? How do you think you may see the world differently if you did?
You Tell Me Yours is a one-on-one performance that creates a safe space where you can walk and talk with a teenager you’ve never met before. And ask the questions that you’ve always wanted to ask, whilst also putting your heads together to solve the problems of the world.
Rediscover the honesty of youth and challenge yourself to be optimistic enough to see the world through teenage eyes.
How long have you been an artist?
Small Things was founded in 2010. Collectively the creative director and associate artists have more than 40 years experience of working as artists!
What do you do when not an artist?
For all of us working in the creative industries is our main form of income – we are very lucky!
What do you think/know of the arts scene in Preston?
We don’t know much about the music scene in Preston. We did see Oasis at the Heineken Music Festival in Avenham Park in 1994 but that probably doesn’t count for much!
Where have you shown work before?
You Tell Me Yours was premiered at Hazard Festival in Manchester in July 2012.
Anything else you think we should know?
You Tell Me Yours is an exciting, interactive piece of performance. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you in Preston!
You can find out more about Small Things on their website and also about the MAPS Festival on Saturday 8 September.
