It’s my favourite event of the year. The music will be thumping, the colourful costumes will be out in force and you can’t help but have a good time. Yes, it’s Preston Carnival day and Avenham Park is once again the venue for loads of entertainment and a blast of Caribbean culture.
It’s a great day out so if you are at a loose end today get yourself down there. If you are looking to catch the carnival procession in full flow then head into the centre of Preston where it will be winding its way through the City centre as it heads towards the park.
The carnival is one of Preston’s longest running events and there seems to be a real determination to make this year’s event better than ever in Preston Guild year.
The artists who design the costumes, the various groups who get involved making them and the organising committee do an outstanding job with the carnival. I’ve been down to the workshops in previous year’s to photograph the preparations and have seen for myself the level of dedication that goes into this event, it really is phenomenal. As a Prestonian, I’m proud of the Carnival and I’d like to thank all those people who put the effort in to make it such a fantastic event.
As it’s not yet happened, I’ve had to go back to last year for this week’s picture of the week. These two carnival goers are regulars and I hope to see them again this year. You can certainly see they are enjoying themselves and it’s infectious. I hope the picture may inspire you to get along to see the Carnival as it winds it’s way through the City today. Here’s hoping it all goes well.
