Two men approached the victim as he got off the number 35 bus and followed him up Oaktree Avenue before hitting him in the back of the head.

The victim turned round to be punched in the head a number of times before seeking refuge in a local shop.

The incident took place on Tuesday 8 May at around 3.10pm and police are hoping this CCTV image will jog people’s memories.

PC Lee Grant said: “This is a brutal assault whereby the victim was set upon for no apparent reason causing him to suffer bad bruising and a broken nose.

“I would ask people to take a close look at the CCTV images and if anyone thinks they recognise this man or believes they may have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact police.”

Anyone with any information should call Lancashire Police on 101.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
