As a photographer, I’m a fan of Preston Bus Station. Some people think it’s ugly but I love its curves and I also love the fact that my pictures of Preston Bus Station have sold well, appearing in the national press and on-line; they even got a mention on Radio 4s Today programme!
There’s hardly a week goes by when Preston Bus Station isn’t in the news for one reason or another. In recent weeks we’ve had the Preston Passion on BBC television, live from the bus station.
We’ve also seen the debate rage over the Brutalist style of architecture with Preston Bus Station being cited as a fine example.
Then there’s been the politics – two attempts to have the building listed have been turned down by different Culture Ministers and Preston Council have refused a proposal for a public vote on the building’s future.
Without doubt it’s an interesting building and for me it’s one of Preston’s crown jewels – let’s face it, you can count those on the fingers of one hand.
The building clearly needs some TLC. Let’s hope that attempts to find private investment to secure the building’s future are successful.
