Inspector Gareth Willis from Preston Police said: “This was a random and reckless assault which could easily have had fatal consequences.
“The victim had simply been enjoying a night out with friends in the city centre and was about to get a taxi home when he was subjected to an unprovoked assault.
“This was a busy time of night when people would have been leaving pubs and clubs and making their way home.”
