The 24-year-old was attacked by three men after being involved in an argument with another man on Market Street, around 4.30am.

He was then followed onto Church Street and three men attacked him outside Yates wine lodge close to the taxi rank, slashing a ten centimetre wound across his neck.

The man is currently being treated at Royal Preston Hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police have arrested a Fulwood man, 21, and a Ribbleton man, 28, and are appealing for witnesses.

The offenders are all described as being dark skinned in appearance and aged in their 20’s.

One of the men was wearing a red and black checked shirt, another a light coloured tracksuit top with orange across the shoulders and the third a black tracksuit top.

Inspector Gareth Willis from Preston Police said: “This was a random and reckless assault which could easily have had fatal consequences.

“The victim had simply been enjoying a night out with friends in the city centre and was about to get a taxi home when he was subjected to an unprovoked assault.

“This was a busy time of night when people would have been leaving pubs and clubs and making their way home.”
