With this event the Preston Social moves to a new and more central venue, the Forum on Winckley Square. We hope you’ll join us for an evening of social media discussion, networking and socialising with others in Preston. You can sign up for the event by using the form at the bottom of the page.
With the news that a father in Northern Ireland is suing Facebook over suggestive photos of his 12 year old girl posted on the site, the question of whose responsibility it is to ensure that children and young people are safe online is getting more heated.
Is it the responsibility of the makers of websites, the parents, or the education system? Or should we expect children to be web savvy enough to not put themselves in danger?
Leading the discussion with a talk followed by questions will be Duncan Hodgson, who does work around promoting positive activities for young people. We’ll also have another youth expert to debate and lead the discussion, who’ll be confirmed nearer the time.
Duncan is involved in the Plings project and rubothered.co.uk, which he designed, developed and has maintained since its original content. The site was recently shortlisted for Best Website of the Radio Wave Culture & Lifestyle Awards.
You can find Duncan on Twitter at @TawdryMe.
As usual doors open at 6:30 for a 7:00 start, and there’ll be an emphasis on discussion and participation.
