As Phil Buckley bumbles onto the Adelphi stage, he remarks that in 8 years of standup he’s never really worked out how to begin a show. This indecisiveness and whimsical manner continues through his latest show Love Fool, as he meanders through an hour long set with anecdotes aplenty.
The delicate matters of internet dating, nightclubs and er…brain farts are all dealt with by Buckley in his relaxed style.
“The worst date I ever went on was probably a blind date with a girl who I was so incompatible with that when we were in the club I fell asleep with my head on a speaker”, he says halfway through. We follow Buckley on his journey through the pitfalls of dating to the eventual conclusion of the current state of his lovelife.
With television appearances on ITV’s stand-up show Glee Time (as well as an appearance in a particularly dodgy film, which he mentions in the show), Buckley is becoming an ever more familar face on television and radio.
It’s a feel good show that plays off Buckley’s everyman persona to create jokes and stories that resound well with the audience.
