The Torch relay will not be passing through Preston when the Olympics come to the UK next year.
AdvertisementToday the relay route has been revealed, and Blackpool is the only Lancashire landmark on the route where the torch will visit on June 22 2012.
I’ve plotted other destinations for the torch in the North West below for people who want to see the torch relay. They include Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, Bolton, Bowness-on-Windermere and Carlisle.
The relay will be 70 days long and will cover 8,000 miles across the UK – beginning on May 19 2012 before finishing at the Olympic opening ceremony on July 27.
Organisers have stated that their aim is that 95% of the UK population would take no longer than an hour to travel to the relay.
You can view a map of the full UK route here.
Edit: As pointed out by Mike Elsea and Bertie101 in the comments, this map shows the overnight stops for the torch, and the route indicates that the torch may still pass through Preston between Blackpool and Manchester.
