What has made youĀ decideĀ to stand for election?
I moved to Lea Ward 13 years ago and was active in the Community forming the Cottam Community Association and Cottam Tots Club. I wanted to continue to improve the facilities and amenities in the area and joined the Parish Council to be more aware of people’s views. I enjoyed getting involved in local concerns and asking residents for their ideas and opinions and decided to stand for election in 2006. I lost by 98 votes but was undeterred and stood again in 2007. I am hoping to be elected for a 2nd term.
What are the key issues for your ward?
The key issues are the completion of the proposed housing development for Cottam Hall and the TescoĀ Brickworks application. Many residents accept the area was intended for housing and would like the area to be completed – however, there are several issues including density of housing and traffic concerns that need to be addressed.
If you were elected how would you keep your constituents informed?
We issue regular newsletters and do door to door canvassing on specific issues. I am currently piloting twitter and facebook as an additional means of communication and we have a local conservative website.
Anything else to add?
No
