Tarleton is a prosperous village built around a huge agricultural community. There are a number of shops and cafes and pubs in the village and ample free parking.

Begin the walk from the Church Road car park opposite Webster’s. Leave the car park and turn left. Pass Trek Outdoors and where the road bends sharp right carry straight on to Plox Brow.  On reaching the canal turn right.  Walk past the commercial buildings then follow the path between the canal and fence.

Continue with the canal on your left as the path takes you into a small wood.  Following the canal, walk under Bank Bridge then turn right and climb up to the footpath of the A59.

Turn right and follow the footpath over the bridge, pass the old gate house.  You will then see a stile on your right.  Cross the stile and following the hedge line to your right.  Cross the stile at the end of the field and cross the lane into the next field.  Keeping to the right, after approximately 50m you’ll notice a slight incline through the small wood to your right leading to a stile. Cross the stile and head to the building on the opposite side of the field.  At the buildings fence bare left, keeping the fence/hedge on your right.  When level with the old willow tree to your left, look for a stile in the hedge to your right.  Cross the stile and turn left on the road.  Pass the gate house and continue until your reach a T junction.

Turn right onto Back Lane and follow it as it bends to the left.  After approx 200m turn right at the small cross roads.  After 10 metres a signed path takes you right, into a field. Walk to the start of a hedge ahead of you and walk its length, keeping it on your left.

At the end of the field, cross a small bridge to your right. Turn right and skirt this field until you reach the gate leading to Eyes Lane.

Turn Left and walk the length of this lane as it crosses Red Bridge (which is actually green) and continues on to cross the Rufford Arm of the Leeds Liverpool Canal and leads in to the hamlet of Sollom.  At the T Junction turn right and head toward the A59.  Shortly after you meet the A59 turn right on to a concrete driveway that leads past a house.  Staying to the left, continue on to a hedge lined lane.

Follow this lane for approx 1 mile as it brings you out on the A59. Cross the road and take the path that leads you across narrow fields separated by a residential road.  Cross a small footbridge and pass the rear of the school to your left as it brings you out on Church Walk.  Continue down Church Walk until you reach Church Road.  Turn right and right again at the mini roundabout.  The car park is across the road to your left.
