The Ribble Steam Railway, on Chain Caul Road, Preston, is getting all ‘Steamed Up’ ready for a very exciting event as the Friendly Engines visit on Saturday 15th August and Sunday 16th August 2009.Two of the Friendly Engines have been picked to double-head the train rides, which run across the Dock Swingbridge past the Preston Marina and runs for a mile alongside the River Ribble, every hour – on the hour from 11 AM to 4 PM each day.
As well as hourly train rides the Railway Centre has a few extras lined up to make it a fun day for families & kids. There is free face painting, a large indoor garden railway layout and on Sunday the Big Narrow Gauge Diesel will be chugging up and down the full length of the main museum.
There is no need to book and your tickets are valid all day and for all trains.
The shop is also open selling souvenirs and gifts and our cafe is also available serving hot & cold drinks & snacks. There is ample free car parking directly outside the centre, so nothing extra to pay.
The Ribble Steam Railway is run entirely by volunteers and you can visit the workshops to see our latest projects, learn about the History of Preston Dock and follow the Mr Ribble Educational Trail around the museum learning about engines and railways.
The majority of your visit is undercover so it is a great day out even on a typical summers day!
Tickets for the event are £5-50 Adults / £3-50 Children (over 3) and Concessions / Family Ticket (2+2) £15-00
